Complication or comorbidity

A complication or comorbidity, and a major complication or comorbidity, are secondary diagnoses that can move an inpatient stay into a higher-paying MS-DRG. CMS lists them in the IPPS tables. The FY2027 Table 5 on this site shows the group title and weight, not the CC list itself. The lookup is at /drg.

Complication or comorbidity

A diagnosis code being a CC is a grouper fact for that year. It is not printed as an instruction on the ICD-10-CM page.

Questions

Complication or comorbidity, answered

Does the ICD-10 page say whether a code is a CC?
No. The ICD-10 page shows the CDC description, excludes notes, and the CMS-HCC mapping when one is published. CC status is a grouper table.
