11-digit NDC

The 11-digit NDC is the form payers use on claims. FDA prints the code in 10-digit segments. The 11-digit form inserts a leading zero so the labeler, product, and package segments are 5, 4, and 2 digits. The ASP crosswalk uses the 11-digit form. The lookup is at /ndc.

11-digit NDC

A hyphenated FDA code and the 11-digit code can be the same product. This site matches on the digits.

Questions

11-digit NDC, answered

Why do some NDCs gain a zero?
The zero pads a 10-digit FDA code into the 5-4-2 shape claims use. It does not create a different product.
