Present on admission

A present on admission indicator on an inpatient claim says whether a diagnosis was present when the patient was admitted. CMS uses it so a hospital is not paid extra for a condition that developed after admission in specified cases. It is not part of the ICD-10-CM code itself. Use the ICD-10 code lookup.

Present on admission

The indicator is reported with the diagnosis code. The code page on this site shows the CDC description. It does not show the indicator, because the indicator is a claim fact.
