Questions

How is the lead code for a condition chosen?

From the CDC ICD-10-CM index, which points each term to a code. A lead that is a header moves to its unspecified billable child. Common lay terms such as UTI or high cholesterol are mapped by hand to the code the index gives, and every one is checked against the FY2027 file.

Why are some conditions not indexed?

A term whose index code needs a 7th character, or whose match is weak, is held for review. The page stays reachable, but it is not in the sitemap.

Does this page pick a code for a patient?

No. It shows the index and tabular data. The code reported depends on the documentation and the CDC guidelines.
