A health care provider taxonomy code is the 10-character code on an NPI record that states a specialty or service type. NUCC maintains the code set. This site shows the short description the NPPES record itself carries, such as Family Medicine. It does not print NUCC definition paragraphs. The lookup is at /npi-lookup.
The NPPES API accepts a description such as Family Medicine. It does not accept the raw code in the description field. City hubs on this site use the short description when one has been stored.
